As the COVID‑19 pandemic continues to grow both globally and domestically, the Agri-Food sector is showing concomitant growth as the demand for food rises, leading to enhanced microbiological risks along the food supply chain. It is imperative to assay formulations, in addition to other surrogate microorganisms, for the Agri-Food sector to ensure microbiologically-safe food for Canadians.

In partnership with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and BC Center for Disease Control (BCCDC), the long-term goal of the proposed project at UBC is to provide evidence-based disinfectant guidelines to the Agri-Food sector that will effectively tackle the current and potential crisis associated with coronaviruses.

The guidelines and knowledge translation materials from this project will be used continuously to the broader agricultural sector and to the public is achieved through web-based channels and various electronic or print news media. In addition, local and national KT staff provide direct transfer of new knowledge/technologies to stakeholders in specific sectors through regular consultations and participation in industry-led events.
