Speaker: F Brinkman

Dr. Fiona Brinkman is a Distinguished Professor in Bioinformatics and Genomics in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University. She is also one of the core members of the new Canadian COVID‑19 Genomics Network (CanCOGeN). Led by Genome Canada, in partnership with the six regional Genome Centres, CGEn, the National Microbiology Laboratories, provincial public health labs, private sector research, and universities/research institutes, CanCOGeN will nationally coordinate and expand viral and host genome sequencing activities for COVID-19, and interface with international sequencing networks in the UK and the US (among others) in order to inform public health decisions and improve patient outcomes. Dr. Brinkman will give an update on the progress of the work, especially regarding accelerated sequencing of viral genomes and related data sharing across provinces.
